California does not allow electronic waste in household trash — TVs, monitors, computers and similar equipment are banned from the regular waste stream and have to go to an approved e-waste handler. That is the main reason this stuff sits in garages for years: it is genuinely inconvenient to deal with.
I take it off your hands and route it to a recycler rather than a transfer station. Screens, towers, laptops, printers, stereo equipment and gaming consoles all come with me, and an old CRT television carried down from a spare room is a normal part of the job.
If a device still works, say so when you call. Working electronics are better re-homed than recycled.
