California bans a lot more from household trash than most people realise — every battery, all electronics, bulbs, paint, tires and treated wood among them. I wrote up the full list and the free programs that take each one, because for most of it the legal route costs nothing.
For safety and environmental compliance, hazardous materials are off limits. These need a licensed hazardous waste facility, not a junk truck.
