Book the free doorstep collection before you call anyone
Roseville will come to your kerb and take hazardous waste and electronics for nothing. Televisions, monitors, computers, printers, batteries with the ends taped, fluorescent tubes up to ten at a time, motor oil, cooking grease, paint up to five gallons — all of it, by appointment, at no charge. You need a minimum of twenty pounds or five different item types, and the ceiling is fifteen gallons or a hundred and twenty-five pounds per visit. Call (916) 774-5780 to book it. If what you are clearing is chemicals and old electronics, that is the whole job done and you should not be paying me a penny.
There is no bulky-item pickup in Roseville
This is the part worth knowing, because every town around Roseville has one and Roseville does not. Folsom gives single-family homes three free bulky pickups a year. Rancho Cordova gives three. Citrus Heights allows ten cubic yards at the kerb. Unincorporated Granite Bay, ten minutes up the road, gets an annual two-yard disposal coupon. In Roseville there is no free large-item collection, no annual allowance, and no yearly clean-up dumpster — the city's residential pages simply do not have that section. What exists instead is a dumpster you rent and the neighbourhood clean-up events each spring, and neither covers a sofa on a Tuesday.
What I'll load
Furniture and mattresses, appliances including fridges and water heaters, televisions and computers, garage and household clutter, yard waste and brush, construction and remodel debris, exercise equipment, and scrap metal. Nothing needs to be at the kerb when I arrive — most Roseville jobs start indoors, and a good few start in a loft or a garage nobody has properly opened in years. What I cannot take is hazardous: paint, solvents, fuel, pool chemicals, asbestos. Nobody in this trade can take those legally, and here you have a better answer anyway, which is the free collection at the top of this page.
What it costs
Pricing is by the cubic yard — the space it takes up in the trailer — with a $165 minimum on any trip. That floor is why most people end up clearing more than they first planned: one wardrobe and one wardrobe plus everything stacked behind it often come to the same money. The number you get before I start is the number you pay. A photo and your address by text is the quickest way to one.
The city dumpster will not take dirt, rock or concrete
Roseville rents residents a six-yard bin, and for a straightforward garage or garden clear-out it is a reasonable option — $187.41 for delivery and collection, one week, as of July 2026. Two things to know before you book it. The city states plainly that these bins cannot be used for dirt, rock, concrete, sod or any kind of heavy construction debris, so a demolished patio or a raised bed full of soil is out. And it is first come, first served while supplies last, so if your date is fixed you are gambling. Call (916) 774-5780 and ask about availability before you plan around it.
Your recycling rides in the same cart as your rubbish
Roseville is the only town on this site that works this way, and new residents find it alarming. There is no blue recycling cart. You get two carts — one grey or black for rubbish and recycling together, one for green waste — and the mixed load is sorted at the materials recovery facility afterwards. The city removed its kerbside newspaper and bottle bins because of it, and it met the state's organic waste law through that same sorting rather than giving everyone a food scraps cart. Practically, it means you do not have to separate a mixed cleanout before it leaves the house, which is one less job on a moving day.
The tip is in Lincoln, whatever the city's website tells you
Worth getting right before you load a trailer. Two of Roseville's own pages send you to "3033 Fiddyment Road" for the landfill. The gate you actually drive through is at 3195 Athens Avenue, Lincoln, (916) 543-3960. What sits on Fiddyment Road is the administration building for the same operation — one site, two frontages, two postal towns — and the tipping entrance is the Athens Avenue one. Placer County's own FAQ makes the same mistake and puts the landfill in Roseville. Set the satnav to Athens Avenue. Disposal gate is 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm at weekends; the hazardous waste and buy-back centre runs 8am to 5pm every day.
What the gate charges, and what it waves through free
Rates as published for July 2025. General household waste is $25.25 a cubic yard or $109.25 a ton, with a $25.25 minimum, and furniture, mattresses and painted wood all count as general waste. Green waste is cheaper at $20 a yard, but only if branches are under two feet — longer and it reclassifies. Clean untreated lumber is $17.50 a yard; treated wood is $228.50 a ton, which is the number that catches people with an old deck. A fridge, freezer or air conditioner is $46.50; a washer, dryer, dishwasher or water heater is $11; a car tyre is $5.25. Free: hazardous waste and electronics up to fifteen gallons or a hundred and twenty-five pounds a day, and up to four mattresses or box springs a day for California residents. Call ahead if the amount matters — these are the latest published rates rather than a quote.
Working to your deadline
Roseville sits at the valley end of what I cover and I am down that way for other work most weeks, so it is a scheduled stop rather than a special journey. The deadlines I hear about here come mostly from estate agents and landlords — a close, an inspection, a tenancy change, each with a date somebody else picked. Give me the date on the call and I will tell you then whether it works. I would rather turn a job down on Monday than have you find out on Thursday.
When calling me is the wrong choice
If it is chemicals, paint, batteries, bulbs or electronics, book the free doorstep collection and keep your money. If it is a few mattresses and you own a trailer, four a day go into the Lincoln site for nothing. If it is one awkward-but-liftable thing and spring is close, the neighbourhood clean-up events take resident drop-offs at no charge. What I am actually for is the work that needs a vehicle and a second pair of hands — a garage emptied in one go, more than a trailer will hold, something heavy at the top of a staircase, a house that has to be clear on a date. Price that against the city's $187 bin that will not take your concrete, two round trips to Lincoln, and the day it costs you.
Where this came from, and when
Compiled 11 October 2026 from the City of Roseville's Environmental Utilities pages and its FY26-27 rate schedule, and from the Western Placer Waste Management Authority's own facility pages and its July 2025 price sheet. Where the city and the facility operator disagree on the tip's address, I have followed the operator. Rates and accepted materials change, and the facility's gate rates are the latest published rather than confirmed current, so call before you drive anywhere. If anything here has gone out of date, tell me and I will fix it.
